Alexandra Alisa Kovalenko

Course: BDes Graphics

Alexandra is a graduate student in graphic design with an interest in visual communication, exploring different approaches within editorial design, illustration, and mixed media. Her practice is driven by experimentation, combining digital tools and hand-made techniques to develop flexible and expressive visual outcomes.

Her visual language often incorporates minimal, hand-drawn elements: fine lines, dot-based textures, and subtle details. She draws inspiration from natural forms and life observations. With a background in architecture, her work is also informed by spatial thinking and structure, which extends into her interest in 3d modelling and form.

Her long-term goal is to develop practices within editorial design, focusing on printed media like magazines. She is interested in incorporating her illustration style into editorial contexts, creating publications where image and layout work together.

Final project: Translating audiovisual rhythm into print

This project explores how cinematic rhythm can be translated into editorial design. Through a series of books based on selected films, it develops a visual system that interprets pacing, montage, and atmosphere within a printed format. By treating the book as a time-based sequence, the project investigates how narrative, tension, and visual flow can be communicated through layout, scale, and composition, creating a bridge between a moving image and print.
