You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars and practical workshops. This will account for 9 contact hours per week and you will spend at least as much time again in essential independent study including research, online work and preparation for assessment. Seminars in smaller groups will enable you to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures. In addition, you will meet with your academic personal tutor. A variety of strategies that aim to foster independent, critical learning will be used in different forms, varying from module to module. Almost all modules have lectures, alongside discussions, student-led seminars, individual and group tutorials, moots, negotiations and role plays. You will also be given the opportunity to work in groups. There will also be a practical dimension to your learning.
Assessment
There is a formal or ‘summative’ assessment at the end of each module. Assessment methods include written examinations and a range of coursework assessments such as essays, reports, portfolios, performance and presentations. The grades from formal assessments count towards your module mark.
Assessment methods are designed to help you develop the skills required by employers and for professional body purposes. These include self, peer and tutor assessment, written exercises including ‘take-home’ activities which are designed to replicate practice, coursework, moots (mock trials), learning portfolios, in-class activities and examinations.
