The role and responsibilities of the Council

The Council manages the College’s activities and advises the Owner as well as the Director on issues that mostly concern:

• The timetables and academic programs of the fields of study
• The educational programs of the College’s fields of study
• The requirements for admission to the College as well as the requirements for promotion and graduation of students of the College
• Amendments and improvements to the Internal Regulations
• The manner of operation of the College, including the appointment of Committees
• The formulation of policy on issues concerning the College
• The College’s internal operating regulations

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Council include determining the general program of its policy, securing financial resources for satisfactory support of the College’s programs, and selecting the General Director.

The College’s Board of Directors has at its disposal the appropriate mechanisms that allow it to be informed in a satisfactory manner about the financial situation and stability of the Institution.

The College Council confirms that the decisions taken by it are always made with a view to academic freedom, the freedom of thought of the students, the maintenance of high quality in the provision of services and the well-intentioned interest of the students. The Council also confirms that its decisions do not contradict the Higher Education Institutions Law 67(I) of 1996 to 2013 and the approval documents of the College by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and the directives and regulations of the European Union.

1.2. (c) The regulation of the Council’s work

The College Council meets once every four months and in extraordinary meetings when called by the owner. Its recommendations constitute important guidance for the Board of Directors, the Academic and Administrative Councils. The Council is chaired by the Director of the College.

The meetings are called by the owner. The Council decides by majority vote. For a quorum to exist and for legal decisions to be made, the presence of at least 4 members is necessary. In the event of a tie, the owner has the casting vote. The Council is chaired by the Director of the College.

Academic Council

The Academic Council is the highest body after the Director General. The Academic Council is chaired by the Head of Studies (Director of Academic Affairs) and the Heads of Departments (Sectors). Two student representatives participate and depending on the subject matter external stakeholders or consultants.

It meets once in every semester and regulates issues of the educational program, teaching staff and students. During the meetings of the Academic Council, the Head of Studies is informed by the Heads of Departments about the progress of the courses and the problems that arise in each department, about the capabilities of the teaching staff of each sector and their contribution. For his part, the Head of Studies gives directions and solves the issues of his own responsibility or transfers problems for which he is not responsible to the General Directorate. The Academic Council deals with special cases of students by providing solutions to their problems.

Responsibilities of the Academic Council

• The Academic Council presents and examines all general policy issues affecting the academic life and development of the College. The Academic Council is also responsible for monitoring and supporting the conduct of teaching so that academic standards are maintained. It also has the following specific functions:
• To periodically review the teaching content of the programs and guide their future development
• To approve the award of academic titles (degrees, diplomas, certificates)
• To dictate and establish regulations regarding cases in which a student may need or desire temporary or permanent withdrawal from all or part of the curriculum for reasons other than disciplinary.
• To appoint, transfer or dismiss examiners when deemed necessary
• To approve and forward to the Council matters that affect the administration and academic strategy of the College
• To review and make recommendations regarding academic and counseling support to students when deemed necessary
• To create and abolish the creation of committees and groups of individuals for various functions when deemed necessary.
• To create and promote the general and specific conditions for academic and research teaching staff of the departments and to collaborate with the Internal Quality Committee and Alexander Research Centre.
