A student is admitted to the College when she / he has satisfied the College’s general entrance requirements or otherwise provided evidence of ability to achieve the required standard at entry, has registered for an award or enrolled on a module or short course and paid the required fees.

Alexander College accepts students irrespective of sex, colour, race, religion ethnic origin or disability. The criteria for admission to Alexander College have been prepared to enable the Academic Committee to select students who have potential to do college- level work and to place students in courses and programmes appropriate to the student’s preparation, in an effort to help them successfully achieve their academic potential.

Procedures for Admission

The college works with the academic semester system. The first semester (Fall Semester) courses start the first week of October and finish at the end of January including a one-week examination period. The second semester (Spring Semester) courses start February 1st and finish May 31, including examination period.

For exact starting and ending dates of the semesters, the students can be informed by the study guide.

Application for registration is welcomed once a year during the fall semester (until October) for all the courses except the MBA, for which the intake is twice a year, during fall semester and during the spring semester. For prospective students who are deemed necessary to attend intensive preparatory English sessions with a final test prior to their official admission to Undergraduate & Postgraduate courses, pre-registration can take place in the summer period.

Overdue student enrolment can be made within two weeks after the beginning of the course for both the fall and the spring semester. For the summer semester, late entries apply within one week after the beginning of the course.

As far as foreign students are concerned, the above dates shall be postponed depending on the dates specified by the Department of Population and Migration.

The intensive English summer programme lasts 10 weeks starting in early July and ends at the end of September. For exact starting and ending dates of the course, similarly as for other semesters, students are advised by the Study Guide. The summer programmes exams are done at the end of September. Within this period, a student has the opportunity to attend the intensive programme so as to sit examinations successfully.

The students’ scores are recorded in the General Control Book.

The candidate must submit all previous documents for registration to the Admission Office, Alexander College, P.O. Box 45081, Larnaca, Cyprus, or via email to the Admission Officer, or by hand at Alexander College. If the candidate is under 18, the application for registration is co-signed by their parents or other guardian, who shall guarantee the payment of annual fees. In this case the management of the college has the right to inform the parent or guardian of the student’s course.

Entry Requirements

Applications for admission to Alexander College are examined and evaluated by the Academic Committee which makes the final decision for the application. The Academic Committee is chaired by the Head of Academic Affairs and composed of the heads of the department of three representatives of the teaching staff, the Admissions Officer, a student official representative, the person responsible for the Records.

Applicants for Undergraduate Studies must meet the following criteria: 

1. High School Leaving Diploma (This must be a six-year Secondary School of the Republic of Cyprus with grade at least 10/20)
2. Evidence of proficiency in the English Language (B1 for Bachelor)
3. Any other certificate or qualification that the Academic Committee considers equivalent and corresponding with Apolyterion of Secondary Education
4. A portfolio of work where stated in the Programme Description

Applicants for Postgraduate Studies must meet the following criteria:

1. Holder of a recognised Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of studies or a recognised equivalent from a professional body. Certified copy of degree, transcripts or a letter of award is to be submitted.
2. A minimum of one to three years of professional experience in administrative positions is preferable. Two reference letters either from employers or from one academic and one professional (employer) must be submitted.
3. We also consider applications from individuals with considerable managerial experience but no first degree (5 years of managerial experience). Evidence of alternative professional development and achievement must be submitted with the application.
4. A portfolio of work where stated in the Programme Description
5. Evidence of proficiency in the English Language (B2 CEFR or otherwise stated).
6. The applicant must include a Personal Statement (of maximum 1000 words) responding in a clear and detailed manner to a set of questions:

• Why have you decided to undertake a Masters Degree at this point in your career? (150 words maximum).
• Why have you chosen to study a Masters Degree at Alexander College? (150 words maximum).
• What knowledge, personal qualities and skills would you bring to this course? (150 words maximum).
• What do you intend to do after you have completed this course? (150 words maximum).
• Please describe your past experience within organisations, including paid work, voluntary work, family business, entrepreneur projects, etc. In particular, please focus on projects where you have collaborated with other people or institutions or organisations (300 words maximum).

6. The applicant must also include an academic CV (Curriculum Vitae) showing the Admission committee skills and qualifications

English Language Certificate

The teaching language at Alexander College is English or Greek depending on respective courses. This means that a student will need to be able to show a good enough knowledge of English to be able to understand and follow the programme, to be able to read academic literature in English and to be able to write assignments and dissertation/ thesis with an acceptable standard of English.

There are normally four indicators that show an acceptable standard of English language:

• If you come from a country where English is the everyday language, and where the education system operates in English
• If you have completed your first degree at a university in which the language of teaching is English.
• If you have a formal qualification in English language that meets the minimum standard the university requires.

A non-native English speaking candidate would be requested to present a proof of English language knowledge like TOEFL with grade 500 or GCSE with minimum grade D, IELTS minimum grade 5.0 or other equivalent certificate; otherwise the candidate will have to pass the preparatory English Examination of the College.

If a student fails the qualifying examination will then be placed in the corresponding Preparatory Year of the field of study (in the case of an undergraduate programme) for which the student is registered. For the foreign students the involved ministry decision predominates.

In the case of Cypriot candidates the Lyceum Apolyterion is considered satisfactory qualification only in the case where the grade in English language is at least 16 out of 20. If the grade is between 14-15 / 20, then the student is required to follow the English course offered and taught in the field of study for which they have expressed interest.
