Student Voice Policy (Programme-Based)

Alexander College is committed to ensuring that students are active partners in shaping their learning experience. The Student Voice Policy is structured at the programme level and, where applicable, per year of study, ensuring that feedback is specific, representative, and directly relevant to each cohort.

1. Principles

The Student Voice framework is based on:

  • Democratic and inclusive representation
  • Programme-specific and year-specific feedback
  • Active collaboration between students and academic staff
  • Continuous enhancement of teaching, learning, and student experience

2. Student Representation Structure

Programme-Year Representatives:

  • Each programme appoints at least one student representative per year of study (or per 40 students), ensuring that all levels are represented.
  • Representatives act as the primary link between their cohort and the Programme Team.
  • Selection is conducted transparently at the beginning of each academic year, with guidance provided by Programme Coordinators.

3. Programme Student Voice Forums (PSVFs)

  • Forums are held at least once per semester for each programme and year group.
  • Participants include student representatives, Module Leaders, Programme Coordinators, and academic staff.
  • Discussions focus on:
    • Module delivery and teaching quality
    • Assessment and feedback
    • Workload and progression
    • Resources and facilities
  • Where appropriate, cross-year issues are escalated to programme-level meetings.

4. Programme Monitoring and Quality Assurance

  • Student feedback from each year group is formally reviewed within:
    • Programme Committees
    • Internal Quality Assurance processes
  • Feedback directly informs:
    • Module revisions
    • Curriculum restructuring
    • Teaching and assessment enhancement

5. Surveys and Feedback Mechanisms

  • Module Evaluations: Conducted per module and per year group
  • Programme Surveys: Conducted twice per annum to capture student experience across each programme and year of study
  • Targeted Feedback: Additional consultations where specific issues arise
  • Alumni Feedback: Used to inform programme development and employability alignment

6. Closing the Feedback Loop

  • Outcomes and actions are communicated back to students through:
    • Programme meetings
    • Digital platforms
    • Representative briefings
  • This ensures transparency and demonstrates how feedback leads to improvement.

7. Student Development

  • Student Representatives develop leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • Participation contributes to professional development and employability readiness
