Alexander College Senior Lecturer and PhD researcher Stelios Stefanos Drousiotis participated virtually in Madrid: A Focus on Pedagogy, an international AMPS conference held from 24 to 26 June 2026 at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
His presentation, co-authored with Dr Eiman Y. Elbanhawy, examined sustainability in Interior Design education in Cyprus. A related paper, Rethinking Sustainability Integration in Interior Design Education in Cyprus: A Case Study in Cyprus, co-authored with Dr Elbanhawy (University of Portsmouth, UK) , Dr Suzanne Fallouh (University of Portsmouth, UK) and Dr Phevos Kallitsis (University of Roehampton, UK) , reports interviews with five recent Alexander College graduates.
The findings suggest that sustainability learning became more prominent in later years of the programme, while highlighting the value of earlier integration, consistent teaching and stronger preparation for professional practice.
This work forms part of an ongoing research study developing a Sustainability Assessment Matrix and a framework for Interior Design education.
