Today, Fashion Design students at Alexander College had the unique opportunity to attend an online guest lecture with internationally acclaimed celebrity stylist, David Marquez.

The lecture was part of the Creative Studio – Level 2 module, organized by lecturer Michalis Pantelidis.

From Fashion Student to Global Stylist

David shared his journey from studying fashion design to styling for some of the world’s most prestigious events, including the Met Gala, Cannes Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, and the VMAs.

He offered valuable insight into how persistence, creativity, and strategic networking can shape a career in the global fashion industry.

Inside the Styling Process

Students learned about the styling process, from developing strong visual concepts through moodboards to collaborating closely with designers and celebrities.

David explained that styling for music videos—often reaching millions of views on YouTube—requires a clear narrative, strong identity, and meticulous attention to detail to create memorable visuals.

Positioning Clients & Building a Fashion Narrative

He highlighted how stylists position clients on international “best dressed” lists, emphasizing the importance of timing, image-making, and crafting a cohesive fashion story around each appearance.

Challenges & Inspiration

David openly discussed the challenges he faced early in his career, particularly networking and building relationships in a highly competitive industry.

His honesty and authenticity resonated strongly with students, providing a realistic yet motivating perspective.

The lecture was truly inspiring, offering practical knowledge and encouragement for students as they begin to shape their own creative paths within the fashion industry.
